Touch For Health was developed in the 1970's by the Chiropractor Dr John F. Thie.
The Touch for Health methodology grew out of Applied Kinesiology Techniques, first developed by the chiropractor George Goodheart in the 1960's.
Touch For Health is a system to improve posture, attitude and life energy, to reduce pain, tension and stress, to feel and function better, be more effective and to clarify and accomplish ones goals and true potential with goal specific balancing.
This process helps a person achieve an aim they have set for themselves. It identifies the meridian and organ systems that are not supportive in realising this goal and then strengthens these, such assisting the person to move forwards in the direction of their choice.
It is an approach to restoring natural energies that combines ancient Chinese energy therapies with recent Western developments in Kinesiology.
Touch for Health is recognised and respected as the fundamental training for other kinesiology systems as well as a healing modality in it's own right. It is a key source for the emergence of Energy Medicine, Brain Gym, Energy Kinesiology and Energy Psychology.
Using muscle testing, benefits are attained by balancing acupuncture meridian energy, identifying foods that raise the body's energy, reducing stress and pain, enhancing physical performance, improving vision, sensory input and brain function, and by improving posture, co-ordination and learning difficulties.
The Dorn Method is a gentle and holistic technique for the realignment of the spine, pelvis and joints developed by the German Dieter Dorn in the 1970's.
It is a widely used therapy for Back Pain and many Spinal Disorders.
The method consists of a range of unique manual techniques, movements and exercises allowing joints and vertebrae to slip back into alignment. The technique is gentle and safe and applicable to all ages, even for the elderly.
Assessment of the different areas like leg-length, pelvis alignment, the neck as well as other joints is done in cooperation with the patient.
The use of movement to allow realignment to take place is unique to the Dorn Method.
The dynamic motion techniques are designed to help vertebrae and joints slip easily back into their natural positions without using any heavy force.
The Dorn Method works on multiple layers. The physical structure, organic connection, emotional balance and energetic flow are all addressed.
As part of the treatment the client is shown simple self-help methods to maintain the beneficial effects achieved during the treatment.
The Dorn Method is greatly complemented with a Breuss Massage, but both techniques work also independently.
The Breuss Massage is a gentle Spinal Massage that safely stretches, aligns, energises and nourishes the spinal column using St John's Wort oil. The technique was developed by the late Austrian Healer Rudolf Breuss.
It is a soothing intervertebral disc massage along the spine to dissolve blockages, gently stretch the spinal column and decompress the vertebrae.
The St John's Wort oil helps the regeneration process of undernourished intervertebral discs.
A predominantly right brain process
Emotional Kinesiology was compiled and written by Gudrun Lauterbach and reviewed and edited by Andrew Verity.
The aim of this process is to dissolve the connection between a past event, the emotion/s felt and a subsequently formed perception.
The purpose is to find all the triggers that contribute in maintaining a situation that no longer serves the person, thus enabling positive change.
The facilitator assists the client in making a conscious connection to how a past event has set up a reaction pattern.
This allows the person to discontinue the associations formed in their subconscious and change their perception. The method frees up energy held in a non-supportive pattern to be used more beneficially elsewhere in their life.
The process is helpful in all extreme stress reactions, including emotionally induced allergic reactions and compulsive stress or pain reactions like phobia and addiction.
Neural Organization Technique is a specialised branch of Kinesiology, which works through the central nervous system to restore structural, biochemical and emotional balance.
It is a 'systems oriented' approach to body structure and function designed by Dr Carl Ferreri with the aim of getting the neurological pathways to function optimally.
This discipline uses physical adjustments like acupressure, reactive muscle monitoring and co-ordinated respiration to address areas of concern. It works far more gently than direct chiropractic work.
Neural Organization Technique re-organizes a person's nervous system when locked into a fight, flight or freeze response and is very effective after any injury or trauma, both physical and emotional.
Other imbalances where the N.O.T. procedure is highly beneficial include compromised immune function, cardiac and circulatory stress, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalance, conditions of scoliosis, as well as learning difficulties like dyslexia, ADD and ADHD.
Techniques for emotional clearing release deeply embedded emotional patterns from the subconscious and create a new framework to provide a healthy body, mind and spirit.
The underlying philosophy of N.O.T. is that in order to understand how our basic physiological functions work today, we must look to our primitive origins and reflexes.
We were after all, created to exist and survive in a hostile environment. Therefore, essentially everything we need for survival, with the exception of food, air and water, must be found within the body itself.
Our neural organisation is what enables us to survive and function in every possible situation and is a self-healing, self-regulating and self-perpetuating system (replacing its own tissues).
It can however be compromised and thrown off balance by physical or emotional trauma as well as poor diet.
Deficits create disharmony and stress within the body and can cause extreme disorganisation in our overall structure and function.
Dr Carl Ferreri combined his knowledge of Chiropractic, Sacro Occipital Technique, Cranial Technique, Applied Kinesiology and the ancient wisdom of both Acupressure and Ayurvedic body mind concepts.
He developed a procedure for the organisation of the central nervous system based on his observations of how the body's primal survival systems of feeding, fight, flight, reproduction and immune system are organized.
This procedure provides the N.O.T. practitioner with a profound technique to be used for almost all client problems.
One of the major contributions to Kinesiology by Dr Ferreri is his groundbreaking research in the area of cranial function.
Deficits in cranial function can occur through trauma to the head, either physical or emotional, as well as through birth injury. Another contributor to cranial dysfunction is stress, especially if it is long term or unresolved.
Symptoms of this disorganisation can be huge, including disorientation, headaches, dizziness, lack of focus, reading, learning and cognition difficulties such as Dyslexia, ADD or ADHD as well as seizure activity, muscle Dyspraxia and emotional and mood changes.
Often effects are hidden and difficult to connect to a particular event or accident.
In many cases Neural Organization Technique in combination with other Kinesiology techniques, especially those that interface with the brain, have had profound results.
Neural Organization Technique draws on knowledge acquired from research in:
R.E.S.E.T. stands for Rafferty Energy System of Easing the Temporomandibular Joint.
It was developed by Philip Rafferty, an Australian Kinesiologist.
The method focuses on correcting imbalances within the jaw by relaxing the muscles, ligaments and nerves of the jaw through gentle touch.
Self-help methods are taught to maintain the beneficial effects achieved during the treatment.
Temporomandibular joint disorder, more commonly known as TMJ, is a condition that affects the joint that opens and closes the mouth. This painful disorder can influence either the joint or muscles that surround it.
The most common symptoms of TMJ are pain or loss of movement in the jaw, earache, headache, popping noises when opening and closing your mouth, facial pain and dizziness, among others.
Dental work can greatly upset the natural position of the TMJ.
R.E.S.E.T. is a painless and effctive method to address TMJ disorders.
How does easing the TMJ work:
The TMJ (jaw joint) influences the body as a whole, including the body's skeletal, muscular, nervous and meridian systems as well as hydration.
Learn To Learn was developed by Gudrun Lauterbach from the Kinesiology Centre, Natal.
Gudrun is a Professional Specialized Kinesiologist and an internationally recognised teaching facilitator for various branches of Specialised Kinesiology.
The process involves a re-patterning and integrating of the faculties required to optimise information processing, learning and recall.
It takes the different styles of information processing and learning into account and the fact that each person is 'wired' uniquely to achieve this.
Based on individual stressors associated with the process of learning, we find ways to compensate and cope.
A stressor is an external stimulus or event, a chemical or biological agent or an environmental condition that causes stress.
Learning involves sight, sound, processing and 'getting' the whole picture.
Understanding our styles and those of others puts us in a position to better assist where stressors in processing and learning arise.
Learn to Learn can aid both children and adults with finding supportive measures to ensure optimum learning opportunities and skills.
It is of assistance in all learning difficulties.
A predominantly left brain process
Neuro Training is an innovative, solution oriented process developed by Andrew Verity, an Australian Neuro-linguistic programming master (NLP), Naturopath, Homeopath
Neuro Training aims at retraining the nervous system to adapt and function more effectively and appropriately by 'defusing' restrictive habits, patterns, emotions, limitations or behaviour.
This allows people to access more beneficial 'ways' and redirect their energy, facilitating positive change. Special attention is given to restrictive inherited patterns called 'genetic references'.
When we react to life with fear, focus on defending, justifying and compensating for the things we feel we cannot change; when we think or feel we have no choice and suppress those things we have no solutions for - we are surviving.
When we focus on solutions to our challenges, when we retrain our neurology to positive expression, focus on our potential, our opportunities, our life direction, our healing and our quality of spirit - we are living.
Neuro Training uses many techniques, skills and references together with an artistry of applications to find the most appropriate way to retrain a person's neurology to be solution oriented.
Solution oriented means becoming aware of the limitations, fears, the negative motivations. Instead of focusing on how to defend against these challenges we focus on finding solutions.
Imagine being able to redirect the energy invested into anxieties, fears, suppressions and compensations and freeing that energy up for solutions to the challenges in life.
Envision the benefit of focusing all that released energy into dreams, plans, and personal potential. Consider having access to inherited resources and a positive expression of the unique person that you are.
Kinesiology is a unique communication tool, using a person's muscle reflexes to access information about their body/mind via the central nervous and meridian systems.
The process is gentle and non-invasive and offers a holistic approach to well-being and health by encouraging the body's self healing ability.
A Specialised Kinesiologist works with and through the body's energy field, affecting the immune, digestive, endocrine and meridian systems as well as muscles, bones, glands, chakras and organs. The aim is to balance the physical, mental, emotional or energetic systems of a person.
'Muscle monitoring' provides the practitioner with a biofeedback system used to identify the nature of distress as well as the optimal balancing method.
The human body is self-regulating, self-healing and self-perpetuating. In order to survive, it maintains balance by monitoring the internal and external environment via the nervous system and making appropriate adjustments.
Signals are sent between the muscles and brain via neural pathways. The cerebellum responds by initiating the appropriate physical adaptations. Muscle testing taps into this adaptive system, giving the practitioner information to facilitate changes.
A fundamental premise of Kinesiology is that the body has innate healing ability and is doing it's best to care for itself, but sometimes needs assistance to achieve this state.
The International College of Professional Kinesiology defines the practice as following:
"Kinesiology is a communication tool that enables the practitioner to assess and upgrade a client's performance in all areas of their life. It is the science of energy balancing and is grounded in the study of anatomy and physiology.
Kinesiology uses muscles as monitors of stress and imbalance within the body and enables the practitioner to detect and correct these imbalances that may relate to stress, nutrition, learning problems, minor injuries and other issues in their daily life."
Kinesiology as we know it today was originally developed in the 1960's by the American chiropractor Dr John Goodheart to enhance and improve the quality of his treatments.
Since then it has evolved into many different branches, all based on the scientific, neurological workings of the body.
The method draws together core elements of various complementary health therapies such as the 5 Elements model
from Traditional Chinese Medicine, aspects of modern Chiropractic Medicine, Acupressure Therapy, various Stress Release methods, Brain Integration Techniques, Meridian Balancing Techniques as well as Homeopathic Information, merging eastern and western health philosophies.
Specialized Kinesiology is a stand alone practice but can comfortably work in combination with conventional medical treatment.
